GIIF organized an agriculture Insuretech innovation challenge/competition as a part of an Insuretech fair, hosted in Mumbai, India in July 2019. Through this innovation fair, the GIIF aims at improving the understanding of Insuretech, supporting the integration of different technology solutions with agriculture insurance, and applying innovation with actual programs on the ground. The African Federation of Insurance Companies (La Fédération des Sociétés d'Assurances de Droit National Africaines - FANAF) held its 44th Annual General Assembly in Libreville, Gabon, between February 17-20, 2020. This year’s high-level event provided a platform to approx. 1100 participants from (re) insurance companies, regulators, brokers, financial institutions to discuss the development of the sector in the continent in general, and their main challenges in operations, in particular. The event is also recognized internationally and praised for its technical panels on innovation

July 9, 2019; Mumbai (INDIA): The Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF) and Sankalp Forum by Intellecap, announced the winners of Agriculture Insuretech Innovation Challenge at the Agri Insuretech Forum that took place at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. GIIF invited participants from leading insurance companies, government officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, impact investors, and innovators incubators from the agriculture, technology, and insurance sectors. On Aug 2, 2019, GIIF signed 270 million CFA of grant agreements with two Cameroonian insurance companies, ACTIVA Assurance and AXA Cameroon, to help tens of thousands of Cameroonian farmers and pastoralists, especially in the cotton, maize, sorghum and livestock sectors, acquire affordable insurance coverage. Before the launch of the agri-insurance on 8th December 2018, pilot projects in 8 districts were run across Bangladesh for last 3 years, with the support of Business Finance for Poor-Bangladesh (BFP-B) Challenge Fund & Agriculture Value Chain Project of USAID.
